final evening: Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands

WRAPPED IN GAELIC CHARM

Despite being known as the ‘Capital of the Highlands’, Inverness still retains the market town feel of its Iron Age origins. Perched above the elegant River Ness, Inverness Castle dominates the horizon, but with its suspension bridges and old stone buildings, the city is compact and pretty.

Whatever your idea of a good night out, you are likely to find it in Inverness, making it the ideal place to celebrate the end of your epic bike trip. Inverness is so well-served with live music venues that it is easy to overlook the wide range of musical styles on offer in the bars and cafes of the town. Hootananny is the city’s best live-music venue, with traditional folk and/or rock music sessions nightly, including big-name bands from all over Scotland.
