THE BEST KEPT SECRET TRAIL

Accomodation

COMO EN CASA

We aim to provide you with an authentic Aragón and Basque experience. Small, charming and traditional casa rurales with superb local cuisine; that’s our standaard. We want you to enjoy high-quality accommodation for a relaxing rural getaway.

Some of the lodgings are in a class of their own. We are particularly fond of the paradores, which are often spectacular converted castles, monasteries and other Spanish monuments. Some are old-fashioned pensiones which have been lovingly cared for, while others are restored traditional mansions. All are situated in unique settings, offering everything from wonderful countryside views to medieval charm.

Expect warm, friendly service where you will feel like visitors out with local friends rather than tourists on holiday with a bike tour company.

In Spanish Utah you will stay at a beautiful restored monastery with a typical Spanish central patio and a wonderful museum.

In the very remote Sierra de Guara, we’ve handpicked two casa rurales. Both are simple, comfortable and set in the middle of beautiful country landscapes. The first, Casa O Mirador is a cozy cottage sitting on the banks of the River Rio Isuela, with wonderful views onto Lake Arguis. The second, Auberge La Mallata, is situated in the lovely village of Nocito, and is truly special. It is a typical High Aragón house where horse riders, as well as occasional hikers and bikers, gather in the evening to enjoy delicious Aragón meals cooked by the hostess, Marie. Her husband Bertrand guides the horse trips and raises the horses, Hispano-Arabs and Arab pure-breds, in the Sierra.

In the Aragón Pyrenees, you will first stay in the centre of the charming medieval city of Ainsa in a typical stone-built property with a rustic-style shared lounge with a fireplace. (either Casa Rivera or Los Sietes Reyes). Then, you will be whisked out of the medieval town and into complete full-screen nature. Moving up higher towards Anisclo Canyon we will take you to Hotel Palazio, a family hotel that lies in the heart of the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. This hotel is in what is probably the remotest part of the Spanish pyrenees. Mountain views from the hotel are breathtaking.

Your first stay in the Basque Country will be at Ameztia Hostal, set in Doneztebe in the beautiful Baztan Valley. Ameztia is a real biker’s hotel and serves homemade local cuisine. The second accommodation is the hilltop Bista Eder, which overlooks the seaside town of Hondarribia and the Bay of Biscay. As well as having a beautiful garden with a pool, it is very close to the town centre where you will find coastal charm and good fish restaurants in abundance.

For your final night, we want you to experience the real San Sebastián. You’ll stay at Casa San Nicholas, situated in the best area to stay in San Sebastian. From here you can enjoy leisurely walks through the pedestrian streets and appreciate its magnificent cuisine. La Concha beach and the old town of Donostia are all within five minutes walk.

*Please note, the hotel/tour pricing may change depending on availability at the time of booking.
