The trail

The Kokopelli Mountain Bike Trail is the ride of a lifetime – 227km (142mi) of linked single track, 4×4 trails and retired wagon road sprawling all the way from Fruita, Colorado to Moab, Utah. This is the south-west at its most amazing and unspoiled, starting on the Colorado River with great views over the Book Cliffs. The trail will then lead you into a labyrinth of red rock canyons, with spectacular views of the La Sal Mountains. Sandstone domes and sheer wall cliffs give way to aspen forests as we climb into La Sal. We finish up in Moab, which is known as the centre of the mountain bike universe, with spectacular views of the Canyonlands and Arches National Parks.

Riding surface

The trail connects single track, sandy roads, dirt roads and occasional mud roads – you’ll even ride on pavement. The terrain is varied, as is the difficulty level: technical in parts, non-technical in others, linked by scenic 4-wheel-drive trails.

Average distance

You will ride between 50km (30mi) and 72km (45mi) a day. Doing the entire Kokopelli Trail is possible in three days if the entire group is very fit and technically experienced. For the less experienced, we can finish near Onion Creek, which puts us on a scenic paved road along the Colorado River, just five miles from the Red Cliffs Lodge in Moab.
