At the heart of every great adventure is a great local guide. Our Beyond Biking guides are from the areas in which they work, so they are guaranteed to know the best local hotspots. Their passion and expertise will help you experience your destination at its authentic best.

All of our guides are carefully-vetted and certified, as well as being recommended by some of the biggest names in mountain biking (such as Singletrack Magazine, IMB, Bike Radar, Bike Magazine, Orbea and Scott).

Expect warm, friendly service from people who will feel like old biking buddies rather than biking tour guides. If you’d like to know more about them, then check out their profiles.

Matic

slovenia_croatia_guide_matic

Matic is a professional geodesist (geodesy is the science of measuring and understanding three properties of the earth: its geometric shape, its orientation in space and its gravity field). Before becoming a guide, Matic spent 12 years working for the Slovenian National Geodetic Institute and given his extensive experience in the field of cartography and marine hydrography, you’ll never get lost with Matic guiding you. Plus, his in-depth local knowledge means that he can always offer you alternative trail options when going from A to B. Out of biking season, Matic works for the United Nations as a cartographer and is a passionate mountaineer. Matic used to join mountaineering expeditions to the highest peaks in the Alps and the Himalayas, but he is currently focusing on his passion for mountain biking. Matic is a qualified mountain bike guide who holds a license issued by the Alpine Association of Slovenia.

Bojan

slovenia_croatia_guide_bojan

Bojan was born and raised in Rijeka, Croatia, and has been a passionate mountain biker since forever. As a child he had two wishes: one was to be a journalist and the other was to be an adventure guide. After graduating, he worked as a reporter at a regional radio station for more than 10 years, during which time he covered many adventure stories and revealed many of Croatia’s undiscovered treasures. This eventually inspired him to swap the radio studio for a life outdoors, and he eventually became an independent bike guide. In 2015, he was named the best tourist guide in the Kvarner region. Why? Because Bojan is so much more than just a bike guide. He is a great trailfinder who loves to look for new trails in the wilderness. Bojan has also mapped a big network of trails in the Kvarner region and by doing so, he has developed the basis for bike tourism in Kvarner. Believe us, the trail network in Krk is a maze, so it is easy to get lost. But when you go biking with Bojan, you will know that you are in the very best hands. He knows all the trails by heart and has probably spent thousands of hours researching and mapping them. Luckily, his wife is also a bike guide so at least he is in good company!

Jan

slovenia_croatia_guide_jan

Jan has been involved in sports tourism since an early age and feels happiest when he is in the flow of Soča River. At the age of 15, he started working at a local sport agency, where he focused on guiding and organising sports programmes. At the end of 2012, he opened his own business, which deals with sustainable tourism projects. Sustainability is key to the growth of tourism in Slovenia and Jan sets the standards for several ECO certifications in tourism, while helping to design the policies to put them in practice in Slovenia. In his younger years, Jan was an extremely talented kayaker (a rapid level six expert, no less), but as he got older, Jan swapped his kayak for a mountain bike. This gives him the opportunity to still enjoy the same feeling of being in the ‘flow’ – expect this time it is on dry land.
