The trail

The Torridon Hills are a hidden gem on a road less travelled, no matter the weather. There is a wonderful sense of isolation and, as one of Britain’s highest mountain ranges, it rises in places to almost 3500 feet. You will ride amid some of the oldest rocks in the world. These iconic Munros are largely horizontal, and have weathered into terraces that provide some of the best natural mountain architecture in the world. The views are equal to some of the full-blown 3000-metre-high landscapes you will find in the Alps – but this is only 650 metres up.

You will ride the Ben Damph circuit first and the day after, you’ll end your holiday with the 5-star rated Torridon Circuit. Climbs to the high Torridon plateaus and lochs are combined with single trails that bring you right back to sea level. Your final descent to Annat is often described as one of the best downhill singletrack trails in the country. This is big mountain riding at its most fun.

Riding surface

The words ‘epic’ and ‘challenging’ are frequently used to describe this terrain. You will tackle some technical singletrack climbs, hike-a-bike sections, river crossings, drops, big rocks, loose rocks and cobbled sections. Torridon is a great place to ride amongst amazing mountain scenery, mostly rideable, but expect to do some carrying – especially on the approach to the mountain tops. But the stunning views and fun downhills more than justify the challenge.

Average mileage

The Torridon circuits counts 47km with an ascent of 800 metres. The Beinn Damph (25km) circuit is slightly shorter, but no less challenging. String-on miles can be added.
