Final evening: HIP REYKJAVIK

Reykjavik is a vibrant city buzzing with creative energy. While it maintains its small-town feel, Reykjavík is an unmistakably modern European capital with the added bonus of having a unique spa culture. As well as being amongst the top ten spa destinations in the world, Reykjavík also won the Lonely Planet Readers’ Choice Award in 2012, with voters praising its legendary nightlife.

You will stay at CenterHotel Thinghol, a luxury spa hotel in the city centre, and foodies will be delighted with the number of restaurants around town where award-winning chefs cook up an Icelandic. Try some of the native cuisine, characterised by an imaginative use of local ingredients such as fresh seafood, organic lamb and wild fish.

If you’ve spent the week absorbing all the good energy of the great outdoors, a night out in Reykjavík is a good time to use it. Friday and Saturday nights are notoriously hedonistic, inspired – no doubt – but the nightless summers. Reykjavik has pubs, clubs and bars for every taste – take advatange of the midnight sun and sample the lot of them.

Depending on the time of your return flight, there may be time on Sunday to visit Reykjavik’s iconic Blue Lagoon . As Iceland’s most famous geothermal spa, it provides a surreal splash of colour amidst the black lava rubble. A shameless tourist rip-off it may be, but it is worth the experience at least once.

Be inspired by Iceland!
